- Prepare a spot at home for their return, one that's out of direct sunlight and clear of moisture and heating vents.

What should I do if my pet dies while we're away from home?
Call the closest clinic or animal hospital wherever you are and ask for your pet to go into their freezer today, even if you're just passing through. Check how many days they could keep your pet, and whether a courier or the practitioner could pick up from there. If you'll be driving home together, use a hard cooler with dry ice, or ice you replace as it melts, and keep it out of the sun.
What if the power goes out while my pet is in the freezer?
Keep the freezer shut and cover it with blankets for insulation. US food-safety guidance says a full freezer holds its temperature for about two days and a half-full one about a day, if the door stays closed. If the outage will run longer, buy dry ice, handle it with gloves and place it on top, or move your pet to a freezer that has power.
What happens if something goes wrong during preservation?
Occasionally a practitioner finds damage once a pet thaws, often fur slipping because of a delay before freezing. A good one will call you, explain what they see and offer choices, such as switching to a partial piece or arranging cremation. Ask about this, and about refunds of the deposit, before you pay anything.
