Pet Preservation in Singapore: what to know
Preserving a pet in Singapore usually means waiting months. Freeze-drying and taxidermy often take 6–12 months[1], and a practitioner's queue adds more. Families who cope with the wait best tend to have chosen carefully, agreed everything in writing and found a small way to mark the months while their pet is away.
For families in Singapore, the biggest hurdle is often the freezer, not the practitioner. A pet needs to be frozen within hours and kept frozen without a break, sometimes for weeks. Clinic freezers, borrowed chest freezers and dry ice during outages are what the whole process rests on, wherever in Singapore you live.

Why preservation means speaking up early in Singapore
In Singapore, about 81.16%[2] of people are cremated, so cremation is the default most families expect, for people and pets alike. That's why vets and emergency clinics tend to route deceased pets straight to a crematory. If you want to preserve your pet, you're choosing the less usual path here, so be clear and early: tell the clinic you want your pet frozen and held, not collected for cremation.

Preservation prices beside other aftercare
In hot, humid climates, the cost of preservation doesn't stop at delivery. Any preserved pet, freeze-dried or mounted, needs a sealed case and a dry, air-conditioned room, and silica gel packs need replacing. Count those in when you compare preservation with simpler keepsakes, such as a paw print or a lock of fur.
If you do find a practitioner, ask how many pets of your species they've preserved, what the price includes and how long the wait is. Published US studios quote 6–12 months[1] for most work. Get the deposit, total and return date in writing before your pet leaves your care.
| Pet and method | Published price | Where |
|---|---|---|
| Freeze-dried pet under 1 lb | USD 650[3] | United States |

| Freeze-dried cat or small dog | £800–£1,500[5] | United Kingdom |
| Taxidermy, standard domestic cat | from £2,300[6] | United Kingdom |
| Typical wait, either method | 6–12 months[1] | United States |

Wildlife permits, shipping and local rules in Singapore
Taxidermy licensing mostly exists to stop trade in protected wildlife, not to regulate pet owners. Still, a careful practitioner will ask what species your pet is and where they came from, and may ask for proof that an unusual pet was legally kept. That's a good sign. If part of your pet is going to be buried or cremated, the usual rules for Singapore apply to that part.
In Singapore, there are very few, if any, local pet preservation specialists, and exporting a pet's body for the work involves permits from the veterinary authority as well as the destination country's import rules. The heat means freezing within hours is essential. Many families choose a partial keepsake, such as fur or a paw print, alongside cremation instead.
What to do now, and what can wait
- If your pet is at a clinic, have the staff note clearly on the file that your pet is being kept for preservation and is not to go for cremation.
- Ask them to freeze, not refrigerate, and to keep any clipping of the coat to the bare minimum.
- Bring your pet home frozen in a cooler, or arrange for the practitioner or a courier to collect.
- Keep your pet frozen solid for at least a day or two before any shipping, as most practitioners ask.
- Pack in a thick cooler with dry ice, add whatever labels your carrier asks for, and ship it overnight early in the week, Monday or Tuesday.
- Keep the tracking number, then check with the practitioner that your pet was moved into their freezer the moment the box arrived.
Keepsakes, displays and gentler options
If full preservation isn't right, a partial keepsake often is. A freeze-dried paw, a tanned tail, a bird's spread wing or a few feathers in a small frame can sit on a desk without anyone mistaking it for a living pet. The rest of your pet can be cremated privately, and one retailer lists small keepsake urns at about $15–$60[8].

Questions people ask
Does it matter which vet in Singapore my pet is with when they die?
Mostly it matters whether they have freezer space and whether they'll take your pet off the crematory list. Any clinic can do that if you ask clearly. If yours can't freeze your pet, ask them to recommend a practice or emergency hospital nearby that can, or collect your pet quickly and use a freezer at home.
Are preservation prices in Singapore different from US price lists?
Often, yes. Each practitioner prices in local currency, and tax, delivery and the cost of a case all vary. We show local published prices where we've found them and US or UK figures for scale where we haven't. Ask every practitioner for a written total, including tax and return delivery, before comparing.
Can I ship my pet from Singapore to a practitioner elsewhere?
Often, yes, within your own country. Practitioners usually ask for pets frozen solid, double-bagged and packed in a cooler with dry ice, sent overnight early in the week. Dry ice has labeling rules, so ask which carrier and service to use. Crossing an international border is harder and usually needs paperwork.
Can I visit a practitioner's studio from Singapore before sending my pet?
Many practitioners welcome a visit or a video call, and seeing finished pets in person is the surest way to judge their work. Ask to see animals of your pet's species and size, including older pieces. If the studio is too far to visit, ask for unedited daylight photos and a live video walk-through before you pay a deposit.
What if nobody in Singapore preserves pets?
Consider a partial keepsake, such as a lock of fur set in a frame, a paw print or cast made at home, or cremation paired with a small keepsake. If a practitioner elsewhere will take your pet, ask about the paperwork for moving an animal's body across borders before you plan anything.
