What pet preservation is like in Celebration
If the grief lingers, reaching out beyond the household can help. Neighbors who shared the same sidewalks and porches may have their own memories to offer, and a card or a shared photo can mean a lot. Pet loss support lines and online groups are available at any hour. There is no deadline for feeling better, and needing some support after losing a pet is entirely ordinary.
Celebration's calendar is full of town events, and the first one without your pet, whether a fall festival or a holiday evening downtown, can feel unexpectedly heavy. That reaction is common. A small farewell at home, with a photo, a favorite blanket and a few words, can give you a clear moment to say goodbye before those events come around.
Overnight carriers don't always reach small towns overnight. From Celebration, you may need to drive the cooler to a depot or shipping counter in a larger centre such as Orlando to make the cut-off. Ask your practitioner what service they want, then call the depot ahead to confirm the late pickup time and whether they accept packages containing dry ice.
Celebration is home to about 11,000 people, the 156th-largest of the 235 Florida communities we cover. The nearest larger centre is Orlando, about 18 miles (29 km) away, which is where some providers serving Celebration are based.
Families in Celebration often end up using a provider from Lake Buena Vista (4 miles), Bay Lake (5 miles) and Campbell (7 miles). That is normal: crematories serve a radius, not a single town, and the drive is priced into collection.
Our estimate
4,050
Celebration: dog- or cat-owning households, our estimate
How we calculated this
11,000 ÷ 2.5 = 4,400 households; × 53% (dog) + 39% (cat) = 4,050. A household with several pets counts once.
Our estimate
340
Estimated dog and cat losses in Celebration each year
How we calculated this
4,050 dog/cat-owning homes ÷ average lifespan (dog: 12.69 yrs + cat: 11.18 yrs) ≈ 340 a year. A floor, not a ceiling.

Why preservation means speaking up early in Florida
With roughly 72.5%[5] of people cremated in Florida, crematory vans often collect from vet clinics on a fixed schedule, sometimes daily. Ask what time the collection comes. If your pet died in the afternoon, there may be only hours before they're loaded with other pets. One call asking the clinic to pull your pet from the list and freeze them is the most useful thing you can do today.
We take the Florida rate from NFDA 2024 Cremation & Burial Report state projections (via Occasional Sage) (2024). It is a human statistic; there is no equivalent pet figure for Celebration, and we would rather show a real number than invent one.
Seasons, shipping and humidity in Celebration
Long hot spells across May, June, July, August and September strain home freezers in Celebration, especially ones sitting in a garage without air conditioning. A freezer working hard in a hot garage may not hold a steady deep freeze. Move your pet to an indoor freezer if you can, or put a cheap thermometer inside overnight; you want 0°F (−18°C) or colder.
Once your preserved pet is home in Celebration, sunlight is the quiet risk. Strong summer light through a window fades dark fur toward brown and dries the delicate skin of the nose and ears. Pick a spot that never gets direct sun, or ask for a case with UV-filtering glass. Room warmth alone is rarely the problem; sun, moisture and time together are.

Preservation prices beside other aftercare
Shipping, a custom base and special positioning all sit on top of the headline price. One price guide puts add-ons such as bases or posing at about $150–$800[6], and return shipping of the finished piece is often quoted separately. By our estimate, freeze-drying costs about six times as much as an average pet cremation[7], so ask for a written total before you pay a deposit.
The Florida price table breaks costs down by product; our services page explains what sits behind each line.

Rules worth knowing in Florida
Taxidermy licensing mostly exists to stop trade in protected wildlife, not to regulate pet owners. Still, a careful practitioner will ask what species your pet is and where they came from, and may ask for proof that an unusual pet was legally kept. That's a good sign. If part of your pet is going to be buried or cremated, the usual rules for Florida apply to that part.
To find your county or city office in Florida, start with the official Florida local government directory.
Start with the Florida rules, which cover burial, scattering and oversight for the whole state, and treat Celebration's local ordinances as a possible extra layer.
A checklist for the first hours
- Find the nearest vet or emergency clinic wherever you are, and ask whether they can freeze your pet today.
- Ask how long they could hold your pet, and whether a practitioner or courier could collect from them directly.
- If you have to drive home, buy a hard-sided cooler and dry ice, or failing that a generous load of bagged ice, with your pet sealed in two bags beneath a towel.
- Check the ice every few hours during the drive, and don't leave the cooler behind in a car sitting in the sun.
- Keep the clinic's paperwork showing the date, your pet's weight and what they died of; the practitioner will ask to see it.
- Choose the practitioner once you're settled, and let them advise whether your pet ships from the clinic or from your own freezer.
Living with a preserved pet in Celebration
Many Celebration households include children, and the town's walkable layout means kids often knew the pet from daily strolls to school or the lakefront. Include them in the farewell in simple ways: writing a note, choosing a flower, or picking a spot in the garden for a memorial stone. Honest, gentle language about death helps children more than phrases like going to sleep, which can confuse or frighten them.

Questions people ask
Can a provider from a neighbouring town collect from Celebration?
Usually yes. Lake Buena Vista is about 4 miles away, Bay Lake is about 5 miles away and Campbell is about 7 miles away, all inside a normal collection radius. Get the mileage written into the quote so there is no surprise on the day.
Will I have to travel to Orlando to arrange things?
Not usually. Providers based in Orlando (roughly 18 miles from Celebration) collect from here as a matter of routine, and the paperwork is done by email or phone. If you want to be present for a witnessed cremation, that is when the drive matters.
Why does the Celebration page quote a human cremation rate?
Because it is the best local signal we have. NFDA 2024 Cremation & Burial Report state projections (via Occasional Sage) (2024) reports about 72.5%[5] of Florida residents are cremated. There is no official pet equivalent, and inventing one would be worse than quoting a real, clearly labelled number.
Roughly how many pets die in Celebration each year?
Our estimate is around 340. It comes from Celebration's population (about 11,000), the average household size, the share of homes with a dog or cat (about 4,050 households here) and the average lifespan. It is arithmetic, not a count, so read it as a rough floor.
What happens if something goes wrong during preservation?
Occasionally a practitioner finds damage once a pet thaws, often fur slipping because of a delay before freezing. A good one will call you, explain what they see and offer choices, such as switching to a partial piece or arranging cremation. Ask about this, and about refunds of the deposit, before you pay anything.
The only taxidermist near Celebration does deer. Can they do my cat?
They might, but ask to see cats or dogs they've finished before you agree. Recreating a pet's face is a different skill from mounting game, because you know every detail of how your pet looked. A game taxidermist can still be a big help in the first hours, by freezing your pet properly or pointing you to a pet specialist.
