Pet Preservation in Abu Dhabi

Pet preservation is a small craft with few practitioners, so most owners in Abu Dhabi don't have one down the road. That's fine. A pet frozen quickly and kept frozen can travel, and can wait while you choose.

Pet Preservation in Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi, the United Arab Emirates

Pet Preservation in Abu Dhabi: what to know

Most families in Abu Dhabi who ask about preservation don't end up with a full-body piece. Some choose a preserved paw or tail with the rest cremated; others keep a lock of fur and a paw print. All of those start the same way, with your pet frozen quickly, so freezing never closes a door.

Weather in Abu Dhabi shapes the first hours. Heat makes freezing urgent, because warmth loosens fur within hours; storms and ice can knock out the power to the freezer your pet is waiting in. A simple plan helps: know where dry ice is sold, keep the freezer lid shut in an outage and have a backup freezer in mind.

Aftercare traditions in Abu Dhabi, and choosing to preserve

Local customs around death vary, and we don't have a published cremation rate for Abu Dhabi. What matters for preservation is the same everywhere: speed and cold. However burial and cremation are viewed where you live, your pet needs to go into a freezer within hours if you want to keep the option of preserving them.

What pet preservation costs in Abu Dhabi

We haven't found reliable published pet preservation prices for the United Arab Emirates, so the table below shows UK and US price lists for scale. In the US, one price guide puts freeze-drying a cat or small dog at about $1,000–$2,500[1] and taxidermy at $800–$2,500[2]. Local prices will differ; ask any practitioner for a written quote in local currency.

Currency swings and import duties can make an overseas quote misleading. If a practitioner abroad agrees to take your pet, ask for the total in both currencies, including couriers, veterinary certificates at each end and the return of the finished piece. Our memorial budget planner can help you decide on a limit first.

Wildlife permits, shipping and local rules in Abu Dhabi

Shipping a frozen pet has its own rules. Dry ice is regulated for transport, so carriers ask for the package to be labeled with the amount used, and some services won't accept it at all. Ask your practitioner which carrier they want and follow their packing instructions exactly. For anything you don't preserve, the usual burial and scattering rules in Abu Dhabi apply.

In the UAE, pet preservation specialists are very rare, and exporting a pet's body for the work needs approval from the ministry responsible for animal health as well as the destination country. Extreme heat means your pet must be frozen within hours if you're considering it at all. Air-conditioned, dry rooms suit a preserved pet at home, but a glass case still helps with dust.

The first hours, step by step

  1. Take a breath. If your pet was frozen quickly, you have time. If they weren't, freeze them now anyway and ask a practitioner honestly.
  2. Describe exactly what happened when you reach out: the time of death, the gap before your pet was frozen, and how warm the room was.
  3. Choose the pose with the practitioner. Closed-eye sleeping poses usually look the most natural.
  4. Send reference photos, including the face in good light and anything distinctive about how your pet sat or lay.
  5. Pay only the agreed deposit, then file the quote, promised return date and refund conditions where you can find them.
  6. Prepare a spot at home away from sun, damp and heating vents, so your pet has somewhere safe to come back to.

Remembering your pet while you wait

Living pets and a preserved one need a plan. Cats may sniff, rub against or knock a freeze-dried companion off a shelf, and a young dog may carry off a small piece. Place it high or behind glass. Once a year, look underneath for fine dust or tiny shed skins, early signs of carpet beetles, and ask your practitioner about touch-ups if you spot fading.

The services page compares what each option includes, the planning tools turn your animal's details into figures, and the poll results show what other families chose. All locations lists every region we cover.

Questions people ask

Do I need a permit to preserve my pet in Abu Dhabi?

Not for a domestic cat, dog, rabbit or captive-bred parrot, in most places. Permits mainly apply to native wild birds, turtles and other protected species, which can be restricted even if you kept them legally. Tell the practitioner exactly what your pet is before you ship, and ask which rules apply.

Can I ship my pet from Abu Dhabi to a practitioner elsewhere?

Often, yes, within your own country. Practitioners usually ask for pets frozen solid, double-bagged and packed in a cooler with dry ice, sent overnight early in the week. Dry ice has labeling rules, so ask which carrier and service to use. Crossing an international border is harder and usually needs paperwork.

Should I choose freeze-drying or taxidermy if I live in Abu Dhabi?

Where you live matters less than your pet and the pose you want. Freeze-drying keeps your pet's own body and suits resting poses; taxidermy fits the tanned skin onto a sculpted body and allows alert or sitting poses. In humid parts of Abu Dhabi, a sealed case matters more for freeze-dried work. Ask a practitioner which method suits your pet, and why.

How many communities do you cover in Abu Dhabi?

We have local pet preservation pages for 1 communities in Abu Dhabi, including Abu Dhabi. Each one covers how to freeze and hold your pet there, what the local weather means for the first hours, shipping to a practitioner, and published prices.

What if nobody in Abu Dhabi preserves pets?

Consider a partial keepsake, such as a lock of fur set in a frame, a paw print or cast made at home, or cremation paired with a small keepsake. If a practitioner elsewhere will take your pet, ask about the paperwork for moving an animal's body across borders before you plan anything.

Are preservation prices in Abu Dhabi different from US price lists?

Often, yes. Each practitioner prices in local currency, and tax, delivery and the cost of a case all vary. We show local published prices where we've found them and US or UK figures for scale where we haven't. Ask every practitioner for a written total, including tax and return delivery, before comparing.
