Eagle Mountain, Utah
Finding a practitioner from Eagle Mountain
Some families here invite a few friends over once the urn is back, timing it for evening when the Lake Mountains glow across the valley. Others simply note the anniversary every year with a favorite picture on the fridge or a candle on the table. Remembrance can be as modest as you like, and nobody else's schedule for grieving needs to match yours.
Eagle Mountain is a young city, full of first-time homeowners and small children, and for many families here losing a pet is the first real grief the household has shared. Let everyone say goodbye as suits them, with a note tucked into a blanket, a crayon picture or a quiet minute alone. Waiting to choose a memorial until emotions settle is perfectly reasonable.
In a town like Eagle Mountain, the local vet may never have had a preservation request. Explain simply that you'd like your pet frozen, not refrigerated, and kept out of the cremation collection. If the clinic has no freezer space, most rural homes have a chest freezer somewhere, and a relative's will do for a few days while you choose a practitioner.
Eagle Mountain is home to about 66,557 people, the 12th-largest of the 52 Utah communities we cover. Some of the providers who serve Eagle Mountain are based about 32 miles away in Salt Lake City, the nearest larger centre, so collection times reflect that drive.
For a second opinion on price, Saratoga Springs (5 miles), Lehi (10 miles) and Bluffdale (12 miles) are close enough that their providers cover Eagle Mountain routinely. Two written quotes tell you more than any price list.
Our estimate
24,500
Eagle Mountain: dog- or cat-owning households, our estimate
How we calculated this
66,557 ÷ 2.5 = 26,623 households; × 53% (dog) + 39% (cat) = 24,500. Multi-pet homes count once.
Our estimate
2,050
Estimated dog and cat losses in Eagle Mountain each year
How we calculated this
24,500 dog/cat-owning homes ÷ average lifespan (dog: 12.69 yrs + cat: 11.18 yrs) ≈ 2,050 a year. A floor, not a ceiling.

Cremation, burial and preservation in Utah
In Utah, only about 46.1%[5] of people are cremated, and burial remains the main tradition. For many families here, keeping a pet's body whole feels more natural than reducing it to ashes, and preservation is, in a sense, another way of doing that. If your pet is preserved, any part you don't keep can still be buried, in the garden or a pet cemetery, if local rules allow.
We take the Utah rate from NFDA 2024 Cremation & Burial Report state projections (via Occasional Sage) (2024). It is a human statistic; there is no equivalent pet figure for Eagle Mountain, and we would rather show a real number than invent one.
Heat, cold and a freezer that mustn't fail in Eagle Mountain
A preserved pet in Eagle Mountain lives through humid summers and dry, heated winters. Both can be hard on delicate work. Keep the piece away from heating vents, sunny windows and damp rooms, and consider a sealed glass case, which evens out swings in humidity. In the most humid weeks around July, a dehumidifier in the room helps.
It's worth thinking about when a finished piece travels back to Eagle Mountain. Some practitioners avoid shipping through the peak heat of July or the storms of January, February, November and December, and will hold a finished pet until the weather settles. Ask when they plan to send yours, and arrange to be home so the box comes straight indoors.

Preservation prices beside other aftercare
The simplest guide is weight. One published US price list charges USD 650[6] for a pet under a pound, $2,095 plus $49 a pound for pets of 6 to 19 lb, and $2,781 plus $69 a pound above 20 lb[7]. On our reading of that list, a 10 lb cat comes to about USD 2,291–2,585[8]. Other studios charge less, and some more.

Permits, shipping and burial rules in Utah
Taxidermy licensing mostly exists to stop trade in protected wildlife, not to regulate pet owners. Still, a careful practitioner will ask what species your pet is and where they came from, and may ask for proof that an unusual pet was legally kept. That's a good sign. If part of your pet is going to be buried or cremated, the usual rules for Utah apply to that part.
To find your county or city office in Utah, start with the official Utah local government directory.
The Utah page sets out who oversees pet cremation and what the state says about burial and scattering. Eagle Mountain's own bylaws can sit on top of that, so ask before you dig.
The first hours, step by step
- Tell your child what's happening in simple words before the freezer door closes, rather than leaving it as something unspoken in the kitchen.
- Double-bag a small pet and place them in a lidded tub, so they can't be squashed by frozen food.
- Let your child help pick a pose by looking through photos together: asleep in a curl, or upright the way they'd wait by the cage door.
- Explain the wait honestly: many months, and a pet who will look asleep rather than alive when they come home.
- Make a memory box together while you wait, with a drawing, the name card from the cage and a favorite photo.
- Agree where the finished piece will live, somewhere your child can see it without handling it every day.
Remembering your pet while you wait
Living farther out means many Eagle Mountain residents spend long hours commuting, and grief can catch up in the car or at the end of a tiring day. Free pet-loss helplines and online groups can be reached from anywhere, including evenings. If someone in the family seems to be struggling alone, a gentle check-in usually helps more than advice.

Questions people ask
Is Eagle Mountain big enough to have several pet aftercare providers?
Probably, on the numbers. By our estimate about 24,500 Eagle Mountain households keep a dog or cat and around 2,050 lose one each year, which is enough steady demand to support more than one provider. We derive that from population (about 66,557), household size and national ownership and lifespan figures.
Does the Eagle Mountain climate change what I should do first?
Only the timing. In July, with highs near 95°F, cool the body and book collection the same day. In January, February, November and December, when lows sit below freezing, a home burial may have to wait for a thaw, so cremation with ashes returned keeps your options open.
Can a provider from a neighbouring town collect from Eagle Mountain?
Usually yes. Saratoga Springs is about 5 miles away, Lehi is about 10 miles away and Bluffdale is about 12 miles away, all inside a normal collection radius. Get the mileage written into the quote so there is no surprise on the day.
How do Utah attitudes to cremation compare?
NFDA 2024 Cremation & Burial Report state projections (via Occasional Sage) (2024) puts the Utah human cremation rate at about 46.1%[5]. We show it on the Eagle Mountain page because pet aftercare choices tend to track it: where cremation is normal for people, communal and private pet cremation are both easy to find.
Is it legal to preserve my pet bird, turtle or snake?
For captive-bred pets such as budgies, cockatiels, parrots, corn snakes and most pet tortoises, usually yes. Native wild species are different: many wild birds, turtles and reptiles are protected, and possessing or preserving them can require a permit even if you kept them legally. Tell the practitioner exactly what species your pet is and where they came from before you ship.
Is it worth driving my pet to a practitioner instead of shipping?
If the drive is manageable, it removes the worry about a delayed parcel, and you get to meet the practitioner and see their work. Pack your pet frozen in a cooler with dry ice or plenty of bagged ice, keep the car cool and go straight there. For a long distance, overnight shipping early in the week is usually safer than a multi-day drive.
