Pet Preservation in Dubai

Dubai, the United Arab Emirates

Pet Preservation in Dubai: what to know

Very few people in Dubai preserve pets for a living, and many taxidermists here mainly mount game animals. That's why most owners choose a practitioner by portfolio rather than by distance. A pet who's frozen solid and properly packed can travel overnight, so the studio whose finished cats and dogs look like real pets is within reach.

Nobody in Dubai should feel rushed into preservation. Clinics, crematories and even kind relatives may press for a quick decision, usually for good reasons of their own. A frozen pet takes that pressure away. You can take a week, compare written quotes, look at partial keepsakes and talk it through at home before committing.

We cover 2 communities in Dubai, from Dubai and Emirates Hills.

What local cremation habits mean for your request

We don't publish a cremation rate for Dubai because we couldn't find one we trust. What we can say is that pet loss hits hard everywhere: in a large UK survey by the RSPCA, 66.9%[1] of owners were surprised by how intense their grief was. Preservation decisions made in that state deserve time, and freezing your pet gives you that time.

How much to budget for preservation

We haven't found reliable published pet preservation prices for the United Arab Emirates, so the table below shows UK and US price lists for scale. In the US, one price guide puts freeze-drying a cat or small dog at about $1,000–$2,500[2] and taxidermy at $800–$2,500[3]. Local prices will differ; ask any practitioner for a written quote in local currency.

If nobody in the United Arab Emirates preserves pets, the real choice is often between a keepsake made locally and nothing physical at all. Simple keepsakes can be very affordable: one US provider lists a fur clipping alone at $23 and a framed clay paw print with fur at $133[4]. A local potter or jeweler may be able to make something similar.

What Dubai rules mean for a preserved pet

Shipping a frozen pet has its own rules. Dry ice is regulated for transport, so carriers ask for the package to be labeled with the amount used, and some services won't accept it at all. Ask your practitioner which carrier they want and follow their packing instructions exactly. For anything you don't preserve, the usual burial and scattering rules in Dubai apply.

In the UAE, pet preservation specialists are very rare, and exporting a pet's body for the work needs approval from the ministry responsible for animal health as well as the destination country. Extreme heat means your pet must be frozen within hours if you're considering it at all. Air-conditioned, dry rooms suit a preserved pet at home, but a glass case still helps with dust.

What to do now, and what can wait

  1. If your pet is at a clinic, ask the staff to write on the paperwork that your pet is held for preservation and must not be cremated.
  2. Ask them to freeze, not refrigerate, and to avoid shaving more fur than they need to.
  3. Bring your pet home frozen inside a cooler, or set up a pickup from the clinic by the practitioner or a courier.
  4. Keep your pet frozen solid for a day or two at minimum before shipping; practitioners generally insist on this.
  5. Pack in a thick cooler with dry ice, labeled as the carrier requires, and send overnight on a Monday or Tuesday.
  6. Keep the tracking number, then check with the practitioner that your pet was moved into their freezer the moment the box arrived.

Keepsakes, displays and gentler options

Clip a small lock of fur and take a paw print before your pet leaves home, but ask the practitioner first if you're sending the whole pet, because they may prefer the fur left untouched. For a partial piece or cremation, go ahead. A lock of fur tied with ribbon costs nothing and is often the keepsake people treasure most.

Questions people ask

How many communities do you cover in Dubai?

We have local pet preservation pages for 2 communities in Dubai, including Dubai and Emirates Hills. Each one covers how to freeze and hold your pet there, what the local weather means for the first hours, shipping to a practitioner, and published prices.

Are preservation prices in Dubai different from US price lists?

Often, yes. Each practitioner prices in local currency, and tax, delivery and the cost of a case all vary. We show local published prices where we've found them and US or UK figures for scale where we haven't. Ask every practitioner for a written total, including tax and return delivery, before comparing.

What if nobody in Dubai preserves pets?

Consider a partial keepsake, such as a lock of fur set in a frame, a paw print or cast made at home, or cremation paired with a small keepsake. If a practitioner elsewhere will take your pet, ask about the paperwork for moving an animal's body across borders before you plan anything.

Is there a pet taxidermist in Dubai?

There may be a few, but pet specialists are rare, and many taxidermists in Dubai mainly mount game. Choose by the quality of finished pets of your species, then plan how to get your pet there frozen. Tell us your species, weight and city, and we'll email back practitioners who take pets from your area.

Can I visit a practitioner's studio from Dubai before sending my pet?

Many practitioners welcome a visit or a video call, and seeing finished pets in person is the surest way to judge their work. Ask to see animals of your pet's species and size, including older pieces. If the studio is too far to visit, ask for unedited daylight photos and a live video walk-through before you pay a deposit.

Should I choose freeze-drying or taxidermy if I live in Dubai?

Where you live matters less than your pet and the pose you want. Freeze-drying keeps your pet's own body and suits resting poses; taxidermy fits the tanned skin onto a sculpted body and allows alert or sitting poses. In humid parts of Dubai, a sealed case matters more for freeze-dried work. Ask a practitioner which method suits your pet, and why.
