Getting your pet frozen and to a specialist from Sharjah
In Sharjah the goodbye usually takes place at a clinic, because vets who visit homes for euthanasia are fewer here than in many countries. Ask for a consultation room where the family can sit with your pet without being rushed, and bring a blanket or toy from home. If a home visit matters to you, raise it in advance, and allow for traffic if the vet is travelling from Dubai.
Sharjah's cooler months, from October to April, are when families spend evenings outdoors on the waterfronts and weekends in the desert or on the east coast, and those first outdoor evenings without your pet can reopen the loss. That is a normal part of grieving. A quiet evening by the lagoon on the anniversary, or a drive to the mountains at Khor Fakkan, can give the loss a gentle place in the year.
Big cities make the practical side of preservation easier. Dry ice is sold by some grocery stores and ice suppliers, overnight carriers pick up late in the day, and a few pet couriers drive frozen animals between cities. None of that helps if your pet hasn't been frozen properly first, so get the freezing right today and sort out the travel once you've chosen a practitioner.
Sharjah's population is around 1,400,000.
For a second opinion on price, Dubai (13 miles, a larger centre), Emirates Hills (26 miles) and Abu Dhabi (89 miles) are close enough that their providers cover Sharjah routinely. Two written quotes tell you more than any price list.

Aftercare traditions in United Arab Emirates, and choosing to preserve
We don't have a reliable cremation figure for United Arab Emirates, but it doesn't change much for preservation. Whatever the local custom, vets tend to follow a routine, and a deceased pet is usually sent for cremation or burial unless you say otherwise. Tell them early that you want your pet frozen and held for a preservation specialist.
How Sharjah weather changes your timeline
We don't have weather averages for Sharjah, so here's a rough rule for anywhere: if you'd be comfortable indoors in a T-shirt, your pet should be frozen within a few hours. If you'd want a sweater, you have a little longer, but still aim for the same day.

Preservation prices beside other aftercare
We haven't found reliable published pet preservation prices for the United Arab Emirates, so the table below shows UK and US price lists for scale. In the US, one price guide puts freeze-drying a cat or small dog at about $1,000–$2,500[4] and taxidermy at $800–$2,500[5]. Local prices will differ; ask any practitioner for a written quote in local currency.

When the rules in United Arab Emirates come into play
If your pet bit someone shortly before dying, or showed signs of a disease that authorities must be told about, public-health rules come before any aftercare plan, and required testing can rule preservation out. Your vet will know what applies. For ordinary deaths from age, illness or accident, preservation raises no legal issue, and the burial and scattering guidance for United Arab Emirates below covers the rest.
In the UAE, pet preservation specialists are very rare, and exporting a pet's body for the work needs approval from the ministry responsible for animal health as well as the destination country. Extreme heat means your pet must be frozen within hours if you're considering it at all. Air-conditioned, dry rooms suit a preserved pet at home, but a glass case still helps with dust.
Your checklist, in the order it matters
- If your pet is at a clinic, ask the staff to write on the paperwork that your pet is held for preservation and must not be cremated.
- Ask them to freeze, not refrigerate, and to avoid shaving more fur than they need to.
- Bring your pet home frozen inside a cooler, or set up a pickup from the clinic by the practitioner or a courier.
- Keep your pet frozen solid for a day or two at minimum before shipping; practitioners generally insist on this.
- Pack in a thick cooler with dry ice, add whatever labels your carrier asks for, and ship it overnight early in the week, Monday or Tuesday.
- Keep the tracking number and ask the practitioner to confirm your pet went straight into their freezer.
Other ways to keep your pet close
Many Sharjah families have moved more than once, and a pet is often the one constant through each new flat and each new job. Losing them can feel like losing a piece of home. Online pet loss groups, expatriate community groups and counsellors in the UAE can help, and your vet may know of one. Sharing photos with family in another time zone can also make the grief feel less solitary.

Questions people ask
Which nearby towns can I compare with Sharjah?
The closest communities we cover are Dubai (about 13 miles), Emirates Hills (about 26 miles) and Abu Dhabi (about 89 miles). Providers based in those places often serve Sharjah too. Ask each one for a written total that includes collection, so the distance is priced in.
Is there a pet taxidermist in Sharjah?
Possibly, but pet specialists are rare everywhere, so don't assume the closest taxidermist is the right one. Many mount game animals and see few pets. Most families choose a practitioner by the quality of their finished cats, dogs or birds, then ship their pet frozen overnight or drive it there. Tell us your pet's species and weight, and we'll email back practitioners who take pets from Sharjah.
Will my preserved pet look like they did when alive?
They'll look like your pet at rest, not like a living animal. Fur, markings and body shape usually come through well. Faces are harder: noses can darken, lips and eyelids shrink slightly, and open eyes are usually glass. Closed-eye sleeping poses tend to look most natural, and lots of reference photos help the practitioner capture what made your pet recognizable.
What if my family doesn't want a preserved pet at home?
It's common for one person to love the idea while another finds it upsetting. Freezing your pet buys time to talk it over. Many families settle on a middle path: a preserved paw or a few feathers kept in one person's room, a paw cast, or cremation with a lock of fur. Decide together where any piece would be kept and who has to see it.
What happens if something goes wrong during preservation?
Occasionally a practitioner finds damage once a pet thaws, often fur slipping because of a delay before freezing. A good one will call you, explain what they see and offer choices, such as switching to a partial piece or arranging cremation. Ask about this, and about refunds of the deposit, before you pay anything.
Is pet preservation available in Sharjah?
Pet preservation specialists are rare in most countries, and in some places no one offers it for pets. Sending a pet abroad for the work usually needs export and import permits, and a thaw in transit would ruin it. Many families choose a partial keepsake instead, such as a lock of fur, a paw print or a small piece preserved by a local taxidermist.
